We talked with our children about what Christmas is supposed to be about. Yes, presents & traditions are a part of it but when you take all those away, why do we give presents? Or why does Santa give presents? It's because we get such an awesome feeling when we give. To take that further, how do you suppose Santa learned about giving? From Heavenly Father! Who did Heavenly Father give to us? His Son, Jesus! And it just keeps going - what did Jesus give us? To be able to repent from our sins and become better! To be resurrected! To be an eternal family! To have the opportunity to live with our Father! To help the kids understand how important He is, we watched the LDS video of "Joy to the World" that was put out some years ago. We asked our daughter to keep track of how many times we SAW Jesus (statue, painting, etc.) and heard His name vs. the same for Santa. Below is the result... We're keeping this because it's definitely a poignant reminder, yes? Christ brings us JOY.
